“Musically, light blue corresponds to the flute; dark blue to the cello, and if it deepens further, to the sumptuous sound of the double bass; in its deepest, most majestic tones, blue can be compared to the low sounds of the organ. Yellow easily becomes high-pitched and cannot become very deep.”
Kandinsky
Nearly 200 works and objects from Kandinsky’s studio reveal how music nourished the painter’s approach, guiding his journey toward abstraction. Exhibition from October 15, 2025 to February 1, 2026 , at the Philharmonie de Paris.
L’Atelier des Correspondances invites you to an exceptional guided tour, presented in two voices:

Gabrielle Thierry
Painter of musicgabriellethierry.com
will decode the “inner music” of Kandinsky’s paintings, introducing the audience to the coloristic and rhythmic harmonies in his work, and to the world of synesthesia.

Kathleen De Francesco
National Museums tour guide and art historianparisguides.eu
will situate Kandinsky’s work within the history of art and, more broadly, explore how 20th-century artists attempted to “paint music”.
